Research from leading price comparison and switching website uSwitch.com has shown that January 17th was the UK's poorest day. Over 14 million households found themselves with a serious financial hangover in January following December's high spending.
And for cash - strapped households in the West Midlands January is particularly gloomy:
36% of West Midlanders turn to credit cards and store cards to get by during their poorest month.
West Midlanders are the most likely to cut back on their social life to get by - 61% will do so.
21% of West Midlanders cutback by only making minimum payments on their credit cards and other borrowings.
