Did you know that 41% of the UK population consider getting fit to be an expensive luxury?
With January being the time that many will kick-start their fitness regime, it is also the time that people take on lengthy contracts at the gym. Nearly half (47%) of adults admit to having joined a gym only to give up within 6 months, with a fifth of these people tied into paying for year-long contracts.
Our research showed that the highest number of respondents left it at least a couple of months (32%) before cancelling their memberships. Only one fifth (20%) of those who have joined but not attended cancelled their payment straight away.
The top three reasons for joining a gym are:
- Fitness (69%)
- Losing weight (50%)
- Social aspect (20%)
